An FRP vertical storage tank (also known as a fiberglass reinforced plastic tank, GRP vessel, or composite chemical tank) is a cylindrical, freestanding storage solution for bulk liquids that would corrode carbon steel or require expensive alloy construction. Unlike metal tanks that rely on rubber linings, epoxy coatings, or cathodic protection, our FRP tanks are fabricated entirely from corrosion-resistant resin systems reinforced with E-glass or C-glass fibers—creating a homogeneous wall that resists attack from the inside out, as well as from external atmospheric corrosion.

Our manufacturing process follows ASTM D3299 (filament-wound fiberglass tanks) and ASTM D4097 (contact-molded tanks). Tanks are produced by computer-controlled filament winding, which precisely lays continuous glass fibers at a structural angle (typically 54.7° for optimal hoop and axial strength) over a removable steel mandrel. The result is a tank with high strength-to-weight ratio, consistent wall thickness, and no longitudinal weld seams that could become leak paths.

Inherent Corrosion Resistance – No Linings, No Coatings, No Cathodic Protection
Carbon steel tanks storing acids, bleach, or aggressive chemicals require expensive internal linings (rubber, Teflon, brick) that eventually blister, crack, or debond—causing catastrophic tank failure. Stainless steel tanks (316L, Duplex) are vulnerable to chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC) in many chemical services. Our FRP tank uses the corrosion-resistant resin as the structural matrix—not just a coating. The entire wall thickness resists chemical attack. No lining replacement downtime. No CP system to monitor. No CSCC risk.
Lightweight – Lower Shipping & Installation Cost
FRP has approximately 15% the density of carbon steel. A 50m³ steel tank weighs ~6,000 kg; our FRP version weighs ~900 kg (for the same working pressure). This translates to: lower freight cost (LCL or 20ft container vs flatbed truck), no heavy crane requirement at site, and reduced foundation reinforcement (often no reinforced concrete needed for smaller tanks).
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio with Filament Winding
Computer-controlled filament winding places continuous glass fibers at optimized winding angles (typically 54.7° for the helical layer, plus circumferential hoops). This produces a tank that can handle high hoop stresses from liquid head pressure without developing microcracks. Our standard design uses a safety factor of 5:1 on burst pressure—exceeding ASTM requirements for chemical service.
Customizable Resin for Exact Chemical Compatibility
We do not offer a “one resin fits all” tank. Our engineers select the correct resin based on your chemical, concentration, temperature, and specific gravity:
– Isophthalic polyester: Water, dilute acids (<20% H₂SO₄), most salt solutions – economical general purpose
– Vinyl ester: Concentrated acids (H₂SO₄ up to 70%, HCl 37%), bleach (NaOCl), caustic soda (NaOH 50%), organic solvents – premium corrosion barrier
– Bisphenol A (BPA): High-temperature alkaline service (up to 100°C, pH 10–14)
– Dual laminate (thermoplastic + FRP): Extremely aggressive (aqua regia, hot HF, pure solvents) – thermoplastic inner liner (PVDF, PP, PVC) with FRP outer structural wrap

Application Scenarios

Chemical and petrochemical industry: Storage of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, alkali, process intermediates, corrosive wastewater.

Environmental protection and water treatment industry: Storage of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment), sodium hypochlorite and other water treatment agents. As a middle water tank and pure water tank, ensure that the water quality is not polluted.

Metallurgy and power industry: The desulfurization (FGD) system of the power plant stores abrasive and corrosive media such as limestone slurry and gypsum slurry.

Paper and Food Industry: Engineered to withstand aggressive bleaching agents (chlorine, chlorine dioxide) and pulp in paper mills, while fully meeting food hygiene standards for use as fermentation, syrup, and storage tanks in the food and beverage sector.

Electron industry: Storage of high purity chemical reagents, such as etching solution, developing solution, etc.

Husbandry: As agricultural fertilizer tank, fermented feed tank, etc.
